BASF’s IsocalcTM based on Cycad Process®

Cycad Process® is the platform on which BASF’s IsocalcTM is based. This allows IsocalcTM to model almost any SX circuit configuration. The wizard provides an easy interface for users to input their model parameters.

Modelling of copper pressure leach autoclave

Cycad Process® was used to model the dissolution of chalcocite (Cu2S) through covellite (CuS) using a 2D-shrinking-core model for a copper pressure leaching autoclave study.

Magnetic separation

Model of the milling and magnetic separation of a magnetic alloy from the non-magnetics.

Pyrometallurgical production of zinc

Cycad Process® was used to model the process to refine zinc from sphalerite using Ausmelt technology.

SX upgrade for a copper producer

Cycad Process® was used to model the entire operation, from ore receipt, through roasting and SO2 scrubbing to leach, solvent extraction, and electrowinning. Full process flow diagrams (PFDs) and the mass and energy balance were produced.

Copper-nickel refinery

The entire base metal refinery, from matte milling through to copper, nickel and cobalt products, was modelled using Cycad Process®. Operations included milling, leaching, electrowinning, hydrogen reduction, crystallisation, evaporation and drying, amongst others. Cycad Process® produced the mass and energy balances and full process flow diagrams.

Recovery of iron oxide

A number of process options were explored for the production of a pigment quality iron product. The different processes included operations such as solvent extraction, ion exchange, and pyrohydrolysis. Cycad Process® was used to produce the mass and energy balances for these different options.

Prefeasibility study for the treatment of a zinc deposit

Seven different processing options were explored. Cycad Process® was used to produce engineering quality diagrams as well as the mass and energy balance reports, so that the client could cost the different options.

Batch distillation of ruthenium

A dynamic simulation of the distillation of ruthenium from a solution containing ruthenium, iridium and rhodium was performed using Cycad Process®. This model was used to determine the capacity constraints of the equipment that the client had installed and to recommend options for de-bottlenecking the precious metal refinery.
